Candace Knapp: "Pianissimo" -sculpture "Pianissimo"

"Pianissimo" is an indicator telling the orchestra to play very softly. It can be fragile, like someone singing far away or it can be an underlying tense buzzing sound, fraught with expectations. This moment in the music always makes me very aware of the huge space in the concert hall that contains this small but very alive sound, like one candle burning in a dark cathedral, a quiet presence filling a very large space.
